Q. What is Supplemental Natural Disaster Protection?

A. It is a unique property insurance plan that pays directly to your customers the monthly sum they select should their home become temporarily uninhabitable following a covered natural disaster.

Q. What type of natural disasters are covered?

A. The policy is a named perils policy. It covers the following natural disasters:

  • Lightning
  • Hail
  • Windstorm
  • Flood
  • Tornado
  • Earthquake
  • Fire*

* Applies only when designated a catastrophe by ISO.

Q. In case of loss, how many months of monthly payments can the customer receive?

A. Claim payments are paid monthly to your customers for up to two full years (24 months) or until their home is rebuilt, repaired, or restored whichever happens first.

Q. Do they have to use the monthly claim payments to pay their mortgage?

A. No absolutely not. We recommend they use the claim payments to pay their mortgage, however, they may use the money in whatever way it would best benefit them. The maximum benefit amount they can select should be no larger than 125% of their mortgage payment, excluding escrow of insurance and taxes.

Q. Does the Supplemental Disaster Protection Plan cover anything else?

A. Yes, it certainly does. The following benefits are also included:

  • In order to help them meet the deductible on their homeowner's policy, the insurance company will pay them up to $500.00 when they have a claim under our basic monthly benefit. The coverage is excess over any other valid and collectable insurance.

Q. What properties are eligible?

  1. Applicant must have a primary policy covering the dwelling for lightning, hail, windstorm, flood, tornado or earthquake.
  2. Coverage is available only on owner occupied primary residences.
  3. Mobile or Manufactured Homes are Eligible.
